Why is it called pickleball? How Pickleball got its name

Pickleball was invented in the 1960s by Joel Pritchard, a U.S. Congressman from Washington state, and his friends Bill Bell and Barney McCallum.

So why is it called pickleball? According to the legend, the game was named "pickleball" because Pritchard's wife called it a "pickle" because it was a mixture of other sports, and the name stuck. Other sources say that the game was named after Pritchard's dog, Pickles, who would chase the ball and retrieve it for the players.

Regardless of how it got its name, pickleball has become a popular sport around the world and is played by people of all ages. It is especially popular in retirement communities, where it is easy to learn and can be played indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court.

Here are the rules to get started today:

Serving: When serving you must hit the ball underhand and below the waist. You must hit the ball diagonally during your serve and ensure your feet are behind the baseline when serving.

Double Bounce Rule: During the serve, the ball must bounce before your opponent can hit it. The returning hit on a serve must also bounce on the serving team's side before they can rally. After the initial bounces, you do not have to allow it to bounce again.

Pickleball Scoring: Each game goes to 11 points and you must win by 2. It’s important to know that you can only score on your serve. Meaning if you win a round on your opponent's serve there is no point.

Rotating: If a point is scored the player serving will rotate sides meaning they will go from right to left or left to right.

No Volley (A.K.A Stay Out The Kitchen!): On a pickleball court there are two 7-foot spaces on both sides of the net which is the no-volley zone and popularly known as the kitchen.

The No-volley rule indicates that a player is not allowed to step into the kitchen to hit the ball. You may not step on the line of the kitchen. If a player hits the ball in the kitchen it is considered a fault.

Pickleball Equipment & Where To Buy

The three main components you need to begin playing pickleball are the paddle, balls, and court.

Pickleball Court: The pickleball court is played for both doubles and singles matches and is the same size as a badminton court. Here are the dimensions:

- Court Size - 22 x 44 Feet.

- Net Height - 36 inches on the sides & 34 inches in the middle

Pickleball Paddle: When pickleball first started, players would play with wooden paddles but as the sport progressed & technology became more advanced, players started shifting towards fiberglass and graphite paddles with a honeycomb core.

Ranging from weight, shape and size pickleball paddles come in many different forms depending on your level of play.

However, do not let that stress you out if you are new to the sport. If you are looking to play casually, we have built the perfect pickleball paddle for you. Our paddle's benefits are that it's lightweight and has a wide body for easier hits and a fiberglass surface for durability and better spin on the ball.

The paddles are similar to a ping pong paddle, but it is usually made of stronger materials like wood, graphite, or composite. Most Pickleball paddles are rectangular and have a handle on one end and a flat hitting surface on the other. The hitting surface is usually made of composite material and may be coated with a textured surface to help generate spin on the ball. The handle of the paddle is usually made of more comfortable materials like rubber or foam and is designed to be held with one or two hands.

Pickleball Ball: The ball is designed to be easier to control than traditional tennis balls. These special pickleballs are typically made out of durable plastic or rubber, have holes punched through them, measure 2.9 inches in diameter - which is smaller than regular-sized tennis balls - and bounce lower because they are hollow.
